‘Jem And The Holograms’ Release Set For October 2015

October 16, 2014

The live-action Jem And The Holograms movie based on the Hasbro animated series will be released on October 23, 2015, Universal said today as it dated two of its upcoming Blumhouse pictures. The music-driven film about a young woman who transforms into a pop star with the help of her best friends and a pair of high-tech earrings is being directed by Jon M. Chu and stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Juliette Lewis, Molly Ringwald and Ryan Guzman.

Chu is producing with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, Scooter Braun for SB Projects, Bennett Schneir, and Hasbro Studios’ Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis. Ryan Landels wrote the script.

Universal also set its Blumhouse horror pic Cybernatural, produced by Timur Bekmambetov, for April 10, 2015. The studio acquired it in a WME Global-brokered deal after a test screening. The pic unfolds over a teenager’s computer screen as she and her friends are stalked by an unseen figure who seeks vengeance for a shaming video that led a vicious bully to kill herself.
